Task to do the Night Before a Move

You're one of those ultra-efficient, hyper-prepared, maybe more than human types who have everything thought out to the finest detail, you probably always have a lot to do. Whether it's due to procrastination or the simple reality of moving, you'll need to get things done before the movers show up.

Call to Professional Mover Company

Okay, this is more for the day before the move, but it's still important to have it checked before night comes. Call the moving company and make sure that everything is ready to confirm the details.

Sure, you signed a contract and agreed, but sometimes things can be misinterpreted. It is best to leave nothing to chance and call the moving company to confirm the timing and make sure that the things you expect from them are the things they will turn out to take care of.

Pack the last few things

Hopefully you can skip this one. If you already have everything packed, you can skip right over. However, if you're like most of us, you have some things that still need to go into boxes.

Chances are, the things that are left out are the ones you use the most. This makes it easy to pack a box of essentials that should contain everything you need for your first night (or two) and morning in your new home. Consider your bedding, towels, toiletries, change of clothes and underwear and simple kitchen utensils for your morning coffee.

Break your furniture

If you've already discussed furniture removal with your moving company, you may be able to cross this one off the list as well. Moving companies charge extra for this step, so if you're on a budget or want to save time on moving day, grab a screwdriver and start taking apart your furniture.

Unplug the electronics

The same goes for electronics and appliances on moving day. If you have the right tools, unplug your appliances so you can move them easily. When disassembling electronics like your entertainment system, do yourself a favor and take a picture first. Label your cables and refer back to the photo when it's time to plug them back in on the other side.

Prepare Snacks

Moving is hard work. Even if you have a professional moving team to help you, there is still a lot going on during the day. You'll want to stay hydrated and be able to refuel with snacks.

Make sure you have enough water, snacks and snacks for you and your movers. After all, they will be doing a lot of heavy lifting. Show them you appreciate them with cold water and some cookies.

Sleep well!

There is no better preparation for the big day than a good and sound sleep. Don't let the above tasks drag on into the night and instead do them early so you can go to bed at a decent hour. Moving is always be an emotional time. While try saying goodbye to your space before bed, you're still home alone. Closing the day with gratitude is a great way to feel good when your head hits the pillow.
